Museum Quality Pewter Table
Fountain France - Circa 1730
Before the 18th Century, the water drawn
from wells or public spring was stored in large wood buckets. Early 18th
century water started to be stored inside the house in pewter, copper or
ceramic reservoirs having a tap. These home fountains, a brand new market
were combining usefulness and aesthetic aspects as many artisans and
artists are competing to create extremely beautiful pieces which are now
still with some family but mostly in local or national museums. This piece
here is in pewter and was called "Table fountain" (larger one were on a
wall) for water or herbal tea. It has a molded cylindrical shape with a
rounded lid. The 2 lateral folding handles and the brass tap are held by
grotesque masks. There is an illegible mark (the last name of the maker)
on the tap. This piece has been given an Expert *(belonging to the French
Trade Society in Oeuvres d'Art) opinion in 9/2012. His conclusion was this
fountain was made 1st half of 18th Century in Toulouse, referring to the
book "Les Etains" (Pewter in French) by
Boucaud-Fregnac, fig 365 page 243. This 1 page Examination will be given
to the buyer.
Dimensions: 12" Diameter and 21" H
*according to French Laws, the expertise regarding Period and Origin are
binding the Expert for 30 years.

Bronze Inkwell by "Barbedienne" Paris
Country: France
Period: 1880
Beautiful Bronze Inkwell with "Love Birds" by
"Barbedienne". The F. Barbedienne Foundry, Paris was one of the few
foundries to survive the Revolution and Financial Colapse of 1848 in
France. This was achieved by actively pursuing contracts with many
reputable sculptors of Paris such as David D'Angers and Jean-Baptiste
Clesinger and many others. Ferdinand Barbedienne died on March 21 1891 and
was mourned by many in the world of sculpture. It was said that he strove
to the highest quality in his castings Albert Susse said of him that he
was the "pride of the nation" and that that he "carried the splendor of
our industry so loftily to all international competitions". The foundry
finally closed in 1952. This bronze is a wonderful example of his high

L'Aveu,

with a hue of red patina bronze, signed "Hipmoreau" on base. Brass plate in front

P.S.:
The Royal Welch Fusiliers was a regiment of the British Army, part of the
Prince of
Wales
’ Division. It was founded in 1689 to oppose James II and the imminent
war with
France
. The Regiment was numbered as the 23rd Regiment of Foot,
though it was one of the first regiments to be granted the honor of a
fusilier title and so was known as the Welch Regiment of Fusiliers from
1702. The “Royal” accolade was earned fighting in the War of the
Spanish Succession in 1713. It is one of the oldest regiments in the
regular army, hence the archaic spelling of the word Welch instead of
Welsh. In the Boer War and throughout World War I, the army officially
called the regiment “The Royal Welsh Fusiliers” but the archaic
“Welch” was officially restored to the Regiment’s title in 1920
under Army Order No 56. During those decades, the regiment itself
unofficially used the “Welch” form. As of 2004, it was one of the
five infantry regiments never to have been amalgamated in its entire
history.
