Carved walnut Louis XV Period marked
Delaporte Bergere
France - Circa 1750
Wonderful "en cabriolet" Bergere, very comfortable
with its large cushion and padded armrests but also truly solid. Made in
carved walnut it shows a rounded outline and terse moldings with
harmoniously curved feet. The top and the center are decorated with carved
"fleurettes". It is newly covered with a "Toile de Jouy" fabric having a
very 18th Century pastoral design.
This Bergere -on one of the back post-is marked M. Delaporte (M for
Martin), who became Maitre Ebeniste in 1738 and deceased in 1756.Next to
it, it carries also the JME mark for "Jurande des Maitres Ebenistes", a
mandatory Association guarantying the piece was made as it should have
been.
