An exceptional pair of former oil lamps with the "Carcel" system. Bernard
Carcel (1750-1812) invented the oil lamp on foot and with a steady system

the piston above the oil level.
The body of each lamp is made of "Porcelaine de Paris " and has a
marvelous red orange colored glaze hand decorated by a garland of grape
vines and in its center a dore scrolled decor of tassels and leaves.
The Vessle is resting on an Octagonal shaped bronze base ,each side being
decorated by vertical lines, topped by flowers and surmounted with a
wreath of foliages .
The lamps also have two handles, with their top in a "Greek Key" shape .
The oil lamps have been electrified probably in the early part of 20th
century, and at that time the neck was surrounded by a fine brass
cylindrical cover and topped by crystal, in ovoid shapes with a large
opening on top for the electrical bulb.
